In a world of cognitive offloading, Brilliant's AI tutor gets kids to actually think. The graphical canvas is interactable by both the learner and their tutor, leading to pedagogically-rich interactions.
We're hiring an interactive-focused engineer to craft the building blocks that power this experience. Each interactive exposes an API used by learning designers, our authoring agents, and the tutor itself. And every configuration those APIs can produce has to be a correct, solvable, meaningful puzzle. It's a tricky technical problem with a big payoff for our learners.
Engineers at Brilliant think about both "building the right thing" AND "building the thing right" while pursuing high standards of excellence for ourselves, our product, and our codebase.

We're building an intimate device that responds in real time to a live AI-generated story and to her body: an app-connected, sensor-equipped vibrator synced to an interactive audio story that AI performs live. The device follows the story, and the story follows her body. Our first 1,000 pre-orders sold out, and we've raised a $1.5M pre-seed. All-woman founding team (CEO is an exited founder and HBS grad; CTO is a multi-time founder and MIT alum; COO/CPO helped lead Wattpad to a $650M exit).
This is employee #1. You'll own hardware architecture, review and change our China partners' schematics and C/C++ BLE firmware (ESP32 / nRF), co-design the BLE protocol under tight latency budgets, integrate the IMU and body sensors (separating real body signals from the device's own vibration), and take us from prototype through EVT/DVT, certification and production, with trips to Shenzhen at key milestones.
You've shipped connected hardware end to end (consumer, wearable, medical or robotics), have 8+ years building hardware products with hands-on embedded work, and have been through at least one production ramp with a contract manufacturer. Bonus: haptics/motor control (ERM/LRA, PWM, waveform tuning), real-time systems, body-worn sensing, FCC/CE/Bluetooth SIG certification.
Apply: email seema@experiencedevin.com with your resume or LinkedIn and a short note on one product you shipped: what you owned, the hardest hardware problem you solved, and how you knew it worked.
We're a small, agent-led studio. Most of our ops run through AI agents, and the people here direct them. We need a production designer who turns briefs into polished, on-brand marketing, social and ad creative, fast, inside an existing brand system.
What we're looking for: - Real Figma experience (required) - You've wired Figma into coding agents like Codex or Claude Code (e.g. Figma MCP), so a design becomes working code without a hand-off - Strong typography and layout craft, and you can keep quality up across a high volume of assets - Clear written English for async work

Arrangr is a scheduling platform with tens of thousands of registered users and hundreds of thousands of people reached through scheduling invitations. Calendly is the incumbent, and it's good. Our thesis: booking links make it efficient to fill your calendar, not productive. Every open slot looks identical, so your best hours go to whoever clicks first. Arrangr schedules by importance.
The opportunity: we can see which companies already have several people using Arrangr individually. Each of those is an unmonetized team. You'd build the motion that converts them (in-product surface, sequences, landing page, pilot) and handle the replies it generates: seats, admin rights, security questions. Then reactivate a large dormant base and fix acquisition.
The engagement: five milestones over roughly three months, $12K paid on milestone completion, milestones 1 and 2 contracted first. "Done" means shipped, instrumented and measured against a baseline. Equity is a defined grant tied to new ARR booked; hitting the middle tier triggers a founding title. Engineering time is limited, so you ship within existing product surfaces.
Right for you if you've run PQL-to-team expansion and reactivation against a base in the tens of thousands. Not for CRO specialists (our volume won't support the testing), paid media buyers, or anyone who wants to manage a team. There is no team. You're it.
To apply: no cover letter. Email adams@arrangr.com with three links to things you personally built, one line each on what the numbers did. Plus one answer: we can see which companies have several individual users. How would you turn that into team conversions, and have you run that motion before?
I read and reply to every one. – Adam, co-founder/CEO

At Shepherd, we're pursuing the most ambitious technical vision in commercial insurance: fully autonomous underwriting. Shepherd is an AI-native commercial insurance platform transforming how high-hazard industries get covered.
The infrastructure behind the AI boom (data centers, semiconductor fabs, renewable energy assets) has to be built and insured, but traditional carriers weren't built for this speed. We built Shepherd to solve that.
We announced our $42M Series B earlier this year! That brings our total funding to over $60M — led by Intact Private Capital, the investment arm of one of the largest insurers in the world. Intact is not only our lead investor but also a carrier partner, a testament to the confidence the incumbent industry has in what we're building.

* In the form, be sure to mention that you heard about this opportunity via Hacker News. If you want to read more about our team and culture, check out our blog: https://shepherdinsurance.com/blog
We build serverless applications on AWS for clients and for our own SaaS products. On client projects, we work directly with their developers and help them understand and maintain what we build.
You’ll write backend code in TypeScript/Node.js, build APIs with Lambda and API Gateway, model data in DynamoDB, and design event-driven workflows and integrations. Infrastructure lives in code using AWS CDK, with CI/CD pipelines for builds and deployments. You’ll help decide how systems are designed and take testing, observability and security into account as you build. There’s some React/Next.js work too.
We’re looking for practical experience building AWS serverless applications with TypeScript/Node.js, including infrastructure as code, CI/CD and event-driven design. The role includes working through requirements and technical decisions with clients, so you should be comfortable with that.
We use coding agents daily and expect you to use them too, and to share useful approaches with other developers. AWS serverless development is the main focus of the role.
We’re remote-first, use Scrum, and work with code reviews, pair programming, and unit and integration tests. We meet in person regularly, sometimes in Cologne, sometimes in Austria or Mallorca. We plan travel around family commitments.
You must be based in Germany and speak business-fluent German and good English. We don’t offer visa sponsorship.
€75k–80k, 32 days of vacation, hardware of your choice, and company-paid AI tool subscriptions.
Send your CV to recruiting@pagnos.com – no cover letter needed. Questions before applying are welcome.

We're building the VMware for GPUs. Most GPUs in the cloud sit idle a lot of the time because they're bolted to one machine over PCIe. We decouple them.
Our virtualization layer is a userspace shim, loaded through LD_PRELOAD, that intercepts CUDA calls and ships them over the network to a host with a physical GPU somewhere else in the data center. Workloads run unchanged. When a process goes idle, the GPU detaches and gets reassigned, and reattaches in tens of milliseconds when it's needed again. Think Ceph for GPUs: the GPU becomes a network resource a cluster-wide scheduler can pool and pack.
The hard part is making that fast. We're within ~10% of native on most AI workloads, and it lets us serve ~1.8x more users on the same fleet. We run it in production as our own GPU cloud and sell it to enterprises with underutilized fleets.
Team is from Citadel Securities, Aquatic, Old Mission, AWS, and Bain. Series A, $17.5M raised from Matrix and Y Combinator.

The best developers don't wait for a customer to tell them something's broken. They catch it first, in the pull request, in staging, or in the checkout flow at 3am, before a single user notices. That instinct is Checkly's whole reason to exist. We give developers and their agents the tools to own reliability the way they own their code: monitoring defined as code, powered by OpenTelemetry and Playwright, versioned and reviewed like everything else they ship. I’m Chris, VP Engineering at Fazeshift. We build AI agents that do accounts-receivable work: billing, collections, payments, and cash application. We're nine engineers plus our Founder/CTO and me, and I'm hiring someone who can help us do more, better: increase both our production capacity and the quality and sophistication of the software we build.
We think AI changes what’s possible here. Instead of giving finance teams another dashboard to stare at, we’re building agents that actually do the work across billing, collections, payments, cash application, and the workflows connecting those systems.
The interesting engineering constraint: we’re intentionally not the system of record. We act across customers’ ERPs, banks, and billing systems. A situation where a timeout doesn’t necessarily mean a write failed, and retrying blindly can be the wrong answer.
A few of the questions we get to work on: * How do you let agents take real actions safely? Permissions, auditability, retries, idempotency, durable execution, and knowing when a human needs to stay in the loop. * How do you build a coherent product when you’re intentionally not the system of record? APIs are inconsistent, webhooks arrive late or twice, and a timeout doesn’t necessarily mean a write failed. * How should an engineering team work when coding agents can take on meaningful chunks of implementation, debugging, testing, and exploration?
We’re especially interested in engineers who have already changed how they work because of AI. If you delegate meaningful work to agents, keep independent tasks moving in parallel, debug where they get stuck, and shave the occasional yak to get things working properly, you’ll feel at home here. We’re still figuring this out too (and updating our priors regularly).
At the same time, generated code is still your code. We care about judgment, debugging, systems thinking, taste, and understanding what you’re shipping.
Our approach is roughly: design enough to find the shape of the problem, then build to learn. There’s a short distance here between noticing a problem, building the fix, and seeing the result.
We’re looking for 5+ years of professional experience, strong TypeScript/full-stack skills, and production ownership. No fintech background needed.
Stack: TypeScript/Next.js, tRPC, Prisma/MySQL/PlanetScale, Inngest, AWS.
I’m Chris, VP Engineering, and I read these applications myself. Email chris.zehner@fazeshift.com with HN in the subject, your LinkedIn/GitHub/résumé, and a few sentences about something you’ve built and how you knew it worked or how AI has changed your approach. No public code needed; please leave out confidential details.
Sidekick builds AI security software for enterprises. Our sensors observe AI behavior and use in situ. From those observations, our reasoning pipeline produces an application inventory and a risk picture, allowing us to provide real-time intervention and coaching right when it matters.
Compensation: base salary scaled to experience, meaningful early-stage equity, and 100% covered health insurance for you and your immediate family
We are a highly senior team. Most of us have been founders or on early founding teams, so we operate with high ownership. We expect you to have a real, current AI-assisted development practice. Our system spans several languages, and we expect you to use AI tools to quickly navigate unfamiliar parts of the codebase so you can comfortably own problems end-to-end across a broad stack.
We are hiring for three roles:
- Senior Software Engineer: You will work across our event-driven architecture. You'll write Go and Python backend services and touch endpoint-deployed browser and desktop components. You need to be comfortable developing in a multi-tenant, microservice-driven SaaS architecture and understand typical scale and security implications for such products.
- R&D Engineer: This is not an open-ended research function. You will take ambiguous feasibility questions tied to our roadmap and return defensible answers inside a week. You'll build handoff-ready prototypes, then shift into engineering mode to personally drive them through to production. You will also define operational envelopes and degradation boundaries, and rigorously deprecate infeasible ideas with documented rationale to avoid future re-litigation.
- Intelligence and Data Processing Engineer: This role is for someone who loves real browser and desktop forensics. You'll use dev tools and debuggers as your primary instruments. Expect to be reading minified code to find where state lives and analyzing network logs to understand undocumented APIs. You will figure out how AI products work and build the prototyping and automation to maintain our software inventory.
To apply: Send an email to eric+hn@sidekicklabs.com with the role in the subject. Include a PDF of your resume, a quick sentence or two about a tough technical problem you've solved recently, and links to your GitHub, personal site, and/or LinkedIn.
I'm Eric, VP of Technology, and I will personally read every email sent to the HN subaddress. You can view my background here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/three-two-one

Software architect, 15+ years in production systems, almost entirely startups and internal startups — fintech, e-commerce, pharma, publishing.
The work I get pulled into is the recurring startup problem: a service shipped fast under launch pressure, without adequate tests, that later has to be made reliable without being stopped. Incident response, re-architecture, and the release discipline that keeps it from happening again. Most recently that has meant a regulated UK consumer-credit platform — loan servicing, arrears, forbearance, statutory breathing space, and early-settlement calculations written against consumer-credit legislation. Regulation as code, behind a test suite larger than the production codebase.
I've done that in all three configurations: taking a core system from problem statement to release, leading the team that carried it (1 to 7 engineers in ten months), and now doing the same work again with agentic tooling covering what the team used to.
On the data side: a LightGBM acquisition model over a 38M-row base — 0.77 test AUC, 8x lift in the top 1% — scoring 2.9M households for a live campaign. The part I'd rather be judged on is what happened next: I found a validation-set defect in my own pipeline (early stopping on the test split), quantified its effect across every figure I had already reported, restated them, and added a pure-noise regression test that pins the model to chance when fed random features — so that class of leak cannot come back quietly. NLP is hands-on rather than API-deep: my degree thesis fine-tuned BERT, RoBERTa and XLNet to state of the art on the FNC-1 stance-detection benchmark, published at LREC 2020.
Building on my own time: github.com/vslovik/fenix — it ranks an incoming stream against a free-text description of what you're looking for, and answers questions over the same corpus with citations back to source chunks. Ollama embeddings, sqlite-vec, no API keys. The part worth looking at is the evaluation: the ranking anchor is scored against a labelled probe set with a deliberate control group of things I don't want, and live results are rated blind — scores hidden, order shuffled — so the human judgement stays independent of the ranking it is judging. Doing that produced a measured finding I did not expect: an embedding has no notion of negation, so naming a technology in order to reject it moves the anchor toward it. Numbers and method in lessons/embedding-anchors.md.
Also a tool-calling agent that turns unstructured regulatory text into a deterministic calculation pipeline — the model does the extraction, a deterministic engine does the arithmetic.
Looking for agentic AI/LLM engineering, LLM evaluation and observability, AI integration, or software architecture. Founding-engineer shape suits me — early employee, not co-founder, but early enough to be in the room where the work gets defined. Direct with the company that owns the product: not consultancy, not agency placement, not a body on someone else's engagement.
Remote: Yes (UK, US and EU time zones)
Willing to relocate: No
Technologies: Ruby on Rails, Python (FastAPI), TypeScript/Node, Go, PostgreSQL, AWS, Hotwire
